Wind Electrical Safety Awareness (SE-P-05235)

Purpose

Performing live electrical work has proven to be a critical issue. Improper handling of electrical systems, leading to electrical shocks and arc flashes, can have huge impact on the life of employees. The goal of this course is to provide participants with an introduction to the necessary knowledge and skills, through theory and practical training, to safely work around electrical systems and components. Participants will review and practice the use of personal protective equipment, tools and procedures needed to perform safe work with electrical components in a wind turbine environment - in accordance with Siemens Gamesa Regional and Internal regulations - EHS standards, PRO 18914-Control of Hazardous Energy, LSP 22195-LOTO, and INS 33147-Electrical Safe Work Practices that support CSA Z462-15-17, NFPA 70E, NESC 2017 and OSHA 29CFR1910 regulations.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course all participants should had acquired the following-
Knowledge / Skills:
(1)Enforce, participate and lead in the All Zero Harm Culture when performing electrical work.
(2)Demonstrate use of all Resilience and Human Performance tools.
(3)Understand local legislation; such as, CSA Z462-15-17, NFPA 70E, NESC 2017 and OSHA 29CFR1910 regulations.
(4)Understand SGRE's policies and procedures regarding safely working with electrical circuits.
(5)Comprehend the roles and responsibilities within their respective work place.
(6)Demonstrate knowledge of arc flash hazards, general hazards and risks associated with working on electrical circuits/ WTG cabinets and their effect on the employee.
(7)Identify and select PPE to be used based on hazard when performing electrical work on a WTG.
(8)Apply and demonstrate knowledge through practicals and use of: L-G IHS-1-009 Hazardous Energy Control LOTOT, INS 33147-Electrical Safe Work Practices, LSP 22195-LOTO and SI 54578I General Health and Safety Rules for Working in Turbines.
(9)Assure that Zero Energy verification tools/procedures are available when proving zero energy work.
(10)Employ knowledge of the assessment of an electrical system.
(11)Understand and demonstrate the use of contact release equipment and procedures
Upon completion of this course all participants will have acquired general knowledge related to wind electrical safety and its components.
Competencies
If not deemed Authorized/Qualified or TSWA by SGRE, employees may not perform any LOTO tasks or live electrical work
