Commissioning and Troubleshooting Core Course (SE-P-09900)

Purpose

The overall purpose of this course is for the participant to understand and demonstrate the fundamentals of wind turbine control systems during Commissioning and Troubleshooting; and to apply the "7 steps of troubleshooting" for the diagnoses and repair of common faults.

Objectives

Upon completion of the course the participants must be able to:
Knowledge
  • - Explain the differences between the role and responsibilities of a commissioning tech and a troubleshooter
  • - Describe the different types of valves and sensors; and related control signals
  • - Describe the function of relays, thermal relays, contactors, and power supplies
  • - Define the purpose and function of the converter system
  • - List and explain the "7 steps of Troubleshooting"
  • - Explain the concept of the 80% Rule of Troubleshooting
  • - Explain the operation and control of a 3-phase motor
Skills
  • - Measure insulation resistance, continuity, inductive and capacitive components of a motor
  • - Recognize and describe the diagnostic tools needed for commissioning and troubleshooting
  • - Identify the different types of sensors used and the associated warnings
  • - Test the operation of a 3-phase motor to establish phase rotation
  • - Apply the "7 steps of Troubleshooting"
Behavior
  • - Work following established safety procedures
  • - Apply Troubleshooter philosophy
